Next week promises to be an incredibly busy week in Lackamore NS.

Monday March 3rd: We will attend our final session of swimming lessons in Grove Island. Also on Monday, we are kicking off our celebration of Seachtain na nGaeilge. This will include having Irish games, quizzes and general fun for the fortnight leading up to St Patrick's Day.




Tuesday March 4th: Shrove Tuesday... Known to us also as Pancake Tuesday. In school, we will be decorating and eating yummy yummy pancakes.

Wednesday March 5th: Trip to Dublin for the RSA Road Safety Awards. Ash Wednesday!

Friday March 7th: World Book Day. We are having a dress up day where every child is getting dressed up as a character from a book. Ms Carey, Ms O Brien and Ms Tuffy are also going to dress up. I wonder what they will come as?

All children will receive a €1.50  book voucher which can be used on the scholastic book club pages or in any participating book shop.

We will be watching the Greatest Book Show on Earth which is a show broadcast live from London and has interviews with loads of famous authors.

We are having some competitions as part of World Book Day. We are having a photo competition where we have to take a photo of ourselves reading in an unusual place. We are also having a Design-a-Bookmark competition and the winning bookmark will be laminated and given out to all children. There are book vouchers for the winners of all these competitions.

Well done to Taylor, Gavin and David for being one of five national winners in the Road Safety Authority poster competition. This is a fantastic achievement! Their task was to design a poster to encourage people to wear high viability jackets. Their poster was entitled 'Glow with the Flow!'.  Normally it is just 2nd Class who attend the award ceremony in Dublin but since we have such small numbers they have allowed us to bring 2nd class upwards. We will send home more details about bus times etc. in the coming days. We hope the children have a great day in Dublin! 

Four puppies and three goats came to the school. First I held a puppy. Then I held a goat. The goat’s names were Polly, Lizzie and Tossy. I held Polly and Lizzy even though Lizzy is wild. We weren’t allowed hold Tossy because he has horns and he is wild and he is super strong but we were allowed rub him. Tossy and Lizzy are two weeks old and Polly  is one week old. The Irish for goat is gabhar. Tossy and Lizzy are brother and sister and Polly is their cousin. Tossy’s and Lizzy’s mum’s name is Nora.
