We started swimming lessons last week in Grove Island, Limerick. The whole school is going. On our first day we had to be assessed in the pool and we were put into two groups. The older group went into the big pool and the younger children went into the learner pool. In our group we practised the back stroke and the front crawl. We also tried to hold our breath under the water for as long as possible. The teacher's name is Matt and he is very nice. The younger group swam with floats and got to play basketball. They also practiced the front crawl and backstroke with floats. We really enjoy these lessons. The pool is really warm and the trainers are very nice. We will be going for eight weeks.

We went to Music in the Classroom in the UL Concert Hall last Tuesday January 14th. The whole school got to go. We were seated together in the hall, towards the back. We saw the RTE Concert Orchestra. Before we went they had sent us the music and a link to dances to practice. In the concert, we heard pieces played by loads of different instruments. The conductor asked us loads of questions about the instruments and we got our question right! The singer was very silly and was telling all the schools the answers. We sang Tea for Two and My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean. We also did some magic during Fiddle Faddle. Ballet dancers danced the Nutcracker Suite. My favourite part of the concert was when they came out of the toy box. It was an excellent show and everyone enjoyed it, even though some of the infants fell asleep coming home!

After-school athletics will start in February and after-school hurling/camogie training will start on Tuesday March 11th from 3:00-3:45. Training is open to children from 2nd class up.

Homework club will commence on Monday January 13th. It will run Monday to Thursday at a cost of €1 per day. The homework club will be open to all children and attendance everyday is not mandatory. Infants can either stay until 3:00 or 3:45. Children from the older classes will stay until 3:45. All children will receive a snack and complete homework under supervision.
