We learned about all the different types of renewable resources available. We entered a competition to win solar panels for our school, unfortunately we didn't win but we came a close 2nd!

Flora and Fauna in Our School Environment
Since the start of spring we have been keep an eye on our local school environment. We have discovered, investigated and learned a lot about the animals, plants, insect and birds in our school environment.
There was great excitement when we spotted 3 deer that emerged from the forest behind our school.
We noticed there were very few birds in our school environment, so we installed a bird box on the school grounds to encourage the birds to nest.

We also spotted a pine marten, who has been causing havoc in our PE Shed, but we were too slow with the camera!

We investigated our insect hotel that we built last year.Lots of mini-beast beast have taken up residence and we used the key to identify them.
We wanted to find out a little more about the flora in our school environment. So we used a hula hoop as a quadrat ( just like real ecologist do!) to get a sample of the plant life in our school.
Green Schools
We are working towards our 3rd green schools flag for water. We have completed a water survey of school, noting all places in the school where water is used.
We have also installed a water butt to collect rain water from the water chute , that will be used to water the plants in our school garden and polytunnel.
