Science
Living Things
The Junior Room learned about the life cycle of a flower. We focused upon the sunflower. We looked at the stages of growth and then labelled and drew our life cycle images. We finally planted our sunflowers and watched them grow!
The Senior Room have been very busy tending to our vegetable patches in the polytunnel and our flower beds scattered around the school grounds!
The Senior Room explored the movement of water in plants. They observed the changes that occurred to a rose when placed in a jar of coloured water. The coloured water highlighted the pathway of the water as it moved up the stem towards to flower itself.
Materials and Change
The Senior Room investigated the changes which occur to an egg when submerged in six different solutions.
They discovered that the egg in the vinegar became bouncy. The tea and the coffee stained the eggs while the coke and orange juice started to degrade the shell. The coke had the more corrosive effect.

Energy and Forces
Sound
The Senior Room tested out pitch as water was poured into glass jars.
They also investigated the different sounds an elastic band made as the elastic band was stretched, while exploring the difference in sounds created by different widths of rubber bands.

Magnetism and Electricity
The Junior Room used magnets of different shapes and sizes to explore their effects on different materials. They also noted that magnets attract magnetic materials through guided discovery.
Environmental Awareness and CareGreen SchoolsWe are working towards obtaining our travel flag here in Lackamore NS!
It was noted that due to the location of our school, 100% of our pupils and staff come to school via car/ bus! We are therefore raising awareness about road usage and safety! The Green Schools committee hosted a colouring competition to highlight the importance of wearing a helmet while cycling! Here is a sneak peak at our Green Schools noticeboard below! |
Gardening Club
The Senior Room decided to establish a gardening club. Boys and girls tend to our vegetable patches and flower beds scattered around the school grounds during lunchtime.
Video Presentation by the National Museum
The Senior Room explored Earth Day 2021 through a series of videos themed Cool Fossils & Hot (Climate) Facts. These videos were presented by the National Museum.
